Apparently Matt LeBlanc will be co-hosting Top Gear. I’ve seen a few of the best of races shows he hosts on top gear. Why do you do this BBC? Why? He is too stiff and his jokes fall flat. Did the writers all get canned too?

He’d be the ‘small American from across the pond’. ¯\_()_/¯

New Top Gear needs at the minimum an orangutan and “someone quirky”. Chris Harris may have the quirky sufficiently covered, but the orangutan role (i.e. someone who does things ‘brash, stupid, and crazy’) isn’t really filled, and from what I’ve seen of Matt, he’s just kind of... there. Can he either adapt to an orangutan role or counterpoint one? I just don’t know.

If your objection is based on him being too stiff while hosting a “best of” show then clearly you've never seen any of the original trio hosting one of the Top Gear clip shows

Eh, I am not opposed, at least he won’t puke when driving with Sabine....

Maybe it will be better with other hosts to play off of.

That may be the case, but lets wait until we see the first episode... even then, let's wait until the first series is over with before we rip into it.

I think he could fill the orangutan role but it may take a while to develop that persona.

BBC figured American is close enough to orangutan.

The trouble is, you can’t fake orangutan easily. It’s better to relax into orangutan than try to force it, and I worry that he’d think immediately that he needed to orang it up and... really not get the tone right.

That’s true, they’d probably be better off with someone who played somewhat of a dimwit for ten years on a popular TV show.

Personally I cant see the new top gear as anything but a flop regardless of the cast.

My dream, James, Jeremy, and Richard take over Top Gear USA replacing all 3 of the hosts.

TG UK had the trifecta of an orangutan (Jeremy), sensible intelligence (James), and comedy sidekick (Richard)

Yes. That is what I’m saying. Unrelated, I CADed up what could serve as four primary shape blanks for The Great Cast Zinc Project, so I may make those blanks out of something to get the measurements right, machine them further with a die grinder, and then either separate the chunks to cast as four pieces to solder together or make a three to four-piece mold with seamlines divided by cardstock for the plaster of paris pour.

Awesome! I tried keeping ease of mold-making in mind when doing the drawings. I figured, and it looks like you had the same ideas, that the body and neck/head, legs and wings, base, could all be individual pieces done as two-piece molds.

Love the project name.

I don’t think it’s ever been syndicated here, but it’s pretty big in the UK apparently.

Clearly it’s a ploy to try and draw American audiences away from that Amazon car show the BBC has been hearing about...

If that was the case, they need to broadcast it in the US but I think Top Gear USA precludes doing that.
